Calcium Score

Coronary Artery Disease is a single Leading cause if disease morbidity and mortality in Australia and accounts for approximately 1 in 10 deaths. Coronary artery CALCIUM SCORE is a highly specific marker of atherosclerosis that has prognostic value in predicting cardiovascular risk in asymptomatic people. At Rockingham Radiology we are pleased to offer the CT calcium score services to help predict risk of cerebrovascular disease in turn contributing to early diagnosis and management.

Do we repeat the test?

This is a common question that patients and clinicians may have. The coronary artery calcium score may remain same or worsen with time but does not regress.

  • In patients with calcium  score of 0, a surveillance scan at 5 years is recommended.
  • In patients with positive calcium score, an annual increase of > 15% or increase of score by > 100 units are predictive of myocardial infarction.
